Looking for something new and active? This 13-day tour is truly for those who like hiking, trekking, cycling, and boat riding, and who want to explore Japan’s hidden gems. Every day is a new discovery, with a mix of guided and self-guided days.
The extraordinary thirteen-day expedition also takes you on a journey through the scenic, cultural, and spiritual heart of Japan, and, with the collaboration of our special guide, offers activities you can never find anywhere else.
This is not a passive sightseeing tour. With the blend of famous places such as the majestic Himeji Castle, the historic merchant streets of Kurashiki, the world-renowned Shimanami Kaido cycling highway, the mystical paths of Mt. Misen on the sacred island of Miyajima, and the underground wonders of Tadao Ando on the art islands of Naoshima and Teshima, you won’t be missing out on the must-go areas of Setouchi.
You will also engage directly with welcoming coastal communities by making Bizen pottery, meeting expat residents on Shiraishi Island, learning the art of preparing fresh sashimi from local fishermen, crafting traditional straw boats, practicing mindfulness during a serene Buddhist calligraphy session, and bar-hopping at izakaya, making your journey a fully immersive exploration.
Welcome to an extraordinary journey through the cultural heart of Japan!
Your adventure begins at one of Japan's most authentic traditional castles, Himeji Castle (UNESCO World Heritage Site). You will mount an electric bicycle to feel the refreshing breeze as your guide navigates you to historic streets, eventually winding upward to an atmospheric mountain temple hidden among lush forests—a location so timeless it served as a backdrop for major Hollywood films.
After a satisfying lunch, a private vehicle will whisk you away to another prefecture, where the legendary pottery town of Bizen (renowned for its rustic red-brick chimneys) appears. Here, you will step into a master artisan workshop to shape your very own piece of traditional earth-toned pottery (Bizen Yaki) to create your personal keepsake. Conclude your craftwork by relaxing with a bowl of whisked matcha tea, served in a Bizen Pottery bowl.
Your evening finishes in a picturesque canal town (Kurashiki city), where you can check into your hotel and select an optional dinner at your own discretion and expense.

Prepare to be charmed by a beautifully preserved merchant district!
Spend your morning strolling past iconic willow-fringed canals, pristine white-walled storehouses, and denim boutiques that perfectly blend vintage Japan with modern elegance. Enjoy a delightful lunch of your choice at one of the stylish local cafes at your own expense.
In the afternoon, your private vehicle will escort you directly to the coastal port of Uno City. From here, you will board a local ferry to the world-famous art island, Naoshima. To ensure maximum comfort, we highly recommend using the convenient luggage delivery service at the port for a coin, which lets you walk freely to your seaside lodge.
Your evening is completely free to immerse yourself in the serene coastal atmosphere and enjoy dinner at your leisure.

Ignite your senses on a self-guided exploration of Naoshima!
Hop onto your reserved electric bicycle to best conquer the island in a day. Today, you gain access to an incredible collection of underground museums and architectural wonders designed by the legendary Tadao Ando. Marvel at the seamless harmony of nature and structural design at the Benesse House Museum, and stand in awe inside the Chichu Art Museum, which houses permanent masterpieces illuminated entirely by natural light. Pedal forward to a historic seaside village where empty traditional homes have been spectacularly transformed into living contemporary art installations. Offering you the perfect opportunity to discover the island's hidden culinary gems independently.

Another day of jaw-dropping creativity awaits on the neighboring island, Teshima!
After a short ferry ride payable in cash on site, you will step onto an island of sprawling, restored terraced rice fields. We suggest renting an electric bicycle or an advanced electric scooter at the port at your own expense to explore this scenic landscape easily. Prepare to be deeply moved by the Teshima Art Museum, an architectural marvel shaped like a massive concrete shell without a single pillar, where wind, light, and drops of water create an ever-changing organic spectacle. Seek out a poignant sound installation that archives heartbeats from around the globe, and visit a mystical forest where thousands of wind chimes tinkle softly in the sea breeze.
Ferry back to Naoshima for your next day to the hidden part of Setouchi Island.

Hidden gem of Japan: Takashima Island!
This is a rare tour with the collaboration with the professional and special guide (Amy) who absolutly fell in love with these islands including Shiraishi Island where she is a long-timer expat resident. She will be welcoming you for the next two days.
She knows everything there is to know about these islands and the community, and will take you today around showing the historic side of the island (Takashima Island) along with a delicious lunch break and a guided trek through the untouched wilderness.
Takashima Island is told to be one of the island Emperor Jimmu has established a temporary palace. If you are lucky, you might be able to meet the artist who sculptured Emperor Jimmu created by recycled fishing buoys.
For thrill-seekers, an optional guided Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) tour is available via pre-booking for an additional fee.
Your rewarding day concludes with a wonderful dinner featuring fresh island ingredients at your hotel.

Hidden gem of Japan: Shiraishi Island, Kitagi Island & Manabe Island. Dive headfirst into authentic coastal living!
The second day with Amy is where her passion reaches its peak. Today is a blend of cultural experience and hiking on three islands.
Receiving a gift from Amy, you will hike up the Mini-Shikoku Pilgrimage route in Shiraishi Island. By taking part, you will discover why bibs are red, what they symbolize, and how they reflect care, protection, and respect—creating a deeper connection to Japanese culture and spirituality.
Meet her local community fisherman and seaweed farmer for an exclusive, hands-on cooking experience where you will learn the Japanese way of filleting fresh fish to create exquisite sashimi for your lunch.
Afterward, board a swift sea taxi over sparkling waves to another island, Kitagi Island—an island filled with 300 years of unique folklore. Inside the home of another local resident she knows, you will craft traditional straw boats used in historic festivals to ward off illness.
Continue your sea taxi voyage to a wonderfully peaceful island (Manabe Island), where Amy will welcome you into a residential house for a warm conversation over coffee and light snacks.
Your full-day guided immersion concludes at a unique island lodge, where you will savor a beautiful dinner and sleep under the stars in a charming log cabin or traditional room.

Saying good-bye to Amy, and saying hello to the start of the hidden gem of Hiroshima.
Awake to the crisp sea air and set off via sea taxi toward a historic, nostalgic port town (Tomonoura) that looks exactly like an old Japanese woodblock print.
Your guide will lead you aboard a ferry to an island called Sensui Island. You will experience an invigorating hike past dramatic coastal cliffs, ancient spiritual sites, and native flora.
Flowing back on the mainland, you will step inside a legendary cliffside temple that once hosted royal historic envoys. Here, clear your mind during a serene 45-minute Buddhist calligraphy experience, all while gazing through windows that frame a panoramic view of the sea so perfect it resembles a living painting. For those desiring a fitness challenge, we suggest climbing the 583 steps to a hidden hillside lookout for an even grander view at no additional cost. Your guide will bid farewell at your hotel.
As twilight falls, ensure you walk down to the harbor to see a giant, centuries-old stone lantern cast its magical glow over the water—a sight completely free to experience.

Step backward in time as you travel by private vehicle into a remarkably preserved historic town often celebrated as the "Little Kyoto" of the region. Your local expert will guide you through enchanting, atmospheric streets lined with grand timber merchant houses from the Edo period. Prepare to be dazzled by an exclusive, vibrant welcome performance of a traditional festival dance by local costumed dancers. After the show, feel free to join the circle and learn the steps yourself!
Following this, you will visit a historic wooden sake brewery building that has stood for over 150 years. Breathe in the rich, sweet aroma of fermenting rice and sample exquisite artisan sakes on site.

Prepare for one of the absolute famous cycling experiences in Japan.

Awaken early for an exclusive shared morning excursion, hiking up a local mountain path hidden right behind the train station. At the summit, witness a breathtaking sunrise while participating in a light yoga followed by a traditional outdoor tea ceremony surrounded by pristine nature.
Later in the day, it's your choice to visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and walking the tranquil paths of the Peace Memorial Park to view the iconic Atomic Bomb Dome before your light bicycle ride.
After your lunch, gear up for a guided electric bicycle peace tour (shared-tour), uncovering hidden historical stories of resilience and restoration.
As darkness falls, your incredible day culminates in an epic, authentic Bar Hopping Tour. Mingle with welcoming locals, learn Japanese office toast etiquette, and feast on sizzling, savory Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki inside a hidden izakaya before finishing the night at a retro karaoke snack bar.
Savor your final morning at your own relaxed pace. Enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel before checking out. Your memorable tour formally concludes at Hiroshima Station, leaving you with timeless memories, newly made local friends, and a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of old Japan.
